RESPONSIBLE TO: Commissioning Engineer (CE)
CONTRACT : October 2013 â€" December 2013, by agreement
BASE LOCATION : Bridgend, South Wales
PACKAGE : £13,000 pro-rata
MSL is an Oxford University spinout company working in the biotechnology sector providing biological processing solutions for industrial waste streams. The appointee should be reliable and able to work in a busy microbiology laboratory on a daily basis carrying out routine analyses and reporting results to the CE.
Job Description
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB :
To carry out chemical analysis of industrial waste streams
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. To carry out chemical analysis of waste stream samples as directed by the CE
2. Data management â€" recording and transcription of data.
3. To report findings to the CE
4. Assist with maintenance and operation of on-site bioreactors
5. Development and review of protocols, codes of practice a! nd the laboratory manual
6. Laboratory equipment â€" ! calibration and operational checks
7. Laboratory supplies management â€" stock control and ordering of consumable items
8. Other tasks as may be identified
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. To become familiar with the day to day operation of the site laboratory
2. To undertake such work as you are assigned in a safe, careful and efficient way an in compliance with the Company policies and procedures.
3. To communicate in a friendly, helpful and non-prejudicial manner in dealings with staff and customers.
4. Working in busy laboratory which carries out a range of analyses
5. Carry out routine kit based chemical analyses on industrial waste stream
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL :
1. The applicant must have some prior laboratory experience.
2. Exceptional self-motivation; well organised.
3. Able to work independently if required.
4. Able, enthusiastic a! nd willing to embrace new technologies
5. Fluent in English, both written and verbal
6. Competent in the use of a standard range of Microsoft Office software applications including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and powerpoint
7. Able to fit into and work with a small team.
DESIRABLE (one or more advantageous but not essential):
1. Demonstrable practical on-site waste water/effluent experience and skills
2. A willingness and enthusiasm to engage with and manage onsite engineering & installations
3. Relevant academic qualification(s)
4. Previous experience with a potential competitor or supply chain partner
5. Previous experience with a potential client, customer or supply chain partner
