Salary £26,629 to £29,! 541 per annum, together with USS benefits, if required.
Applications are invited for the position of KTP Associate in Optimisation of Weather/Climate Software for Fujitsu HPC Platforms in the College of Engineering, reference EGR578/1. This is a three-year fixed term appointment until 30 September 2016.
Swansea University and Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe have recently been awarded funding from the Welsh Government to undertake a KTP project aimed at optimising the UK Met Office Unified Model (MetUM) for Fujitsuâs HPC platforms and at coupling MetUM with hydrological models. This will support initiatives to use computer modelling to predict and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events, an area that has been identified as a high priority by the Welsh Government. This three-year project will employ two KTP Associates
Due to the specific nature of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships ( http://www.ktponline.org.uk ), applicants are expected to:
have (or be committed to obtaining through the training! offered by the project) good communication, managerial, and presentation/reporting skills for working with a multi-national company.
be committed to undertaking the role of project management, for example planning, monitoring progress and reporting.
be committed to spending at least 50% of their time working at the office of Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe in Hayes, Middlesex.
be committed to international travel to countries including (but not limited to) Australia, Japan and South Korea, for at least four weeks per year.
The successful applicant will be working with supervisors from both the research group at the College of Engineering, Swansea University (the knowledge base) and Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe. The members of the Swansea research group consist of academics, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students carrying out world class research in water, coastal engineering and climate change, are involved in a range of diverse res! earch projects and maintain strong industrial links. The unique nature of the project will benefit the successful applicant:
