JOB TITLE: Medical Receptionist

BASE: Pendre Surgery Mold

ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS!

ACCOUNTABLE TO: The General Practitioners in partnership

UNDER SUPERVISION OF: The Practice Manager
The Personnel Manager

JOB PURPOSE to provide to the patient, the first point of access to medical care in a sympathetic, courteous, helpful and efficient manner

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
RECEPTION
DUTIES INCLUDE: 1 Reception of patients in a pleasant and courteous manner

2. Answering the telephone in a courteous and efficient manner, forwarding calls to the appropriate person in an efficient and courteous manner, answering emergency calls and following protocols to deal with these in a speedy and appropriate way. Taking accurate messages and passing them on to the appropriate person efficiently

3. Operation of computerised prescription system- printing of repeat prescriptions

4. Operation of the path lab links: - giving out results as detailed by the GP to the pat! ient, completing various actions as requested by the GP such a! s asking the patient to come in for an appointment etc.

5. Input of relevant data on to computer for example patients change of address, patients enquiries to a GP etc

6. Filing of letters into the patient's paper records in chronological order
7. Liaison with other health care bodies in order to provide the required service to a patient.

8. Accurate completion of Health Authority forms

9. Scanning of mail on to a patients computer records if required

10. Entering details of patient enquiries for GP attention, passing on information accurately to the GP and back to the patient once the enquiry is answered.

11. Opening and distribution of morning mail to the correct recipient if required

12. Complying with the practice confidentiality policy and agreement.

13. complying with the practice security policy and associated procedures to ensure the security of all information held by the practice

! 14. Complying with the practices policies on record management; maintaining patient's medical records, to ensure information is accurate and up to date for future reference and to comply with the data protection Act.

15. Good communication and teamwork in order for the practice to work efficiently and work to be shared out in a fair manner

16. Such other duties as specified by the partners, Practice Manager or Personnel Manager

Applicants must be computer literate to a good standard and have excellent communication skills; be able to work well within a team and under own initiative. The successful applicant will also need to be self motivated and hard working. Attention to detail and common sense also required.
In the future the post holder may also be required to be trained to take blood pressures and perform ECGs etc
