Background and Service

Kaleidoscope is a pioneering substance misuse treatment provider, offering evidence based treatment and holistic support to individuals who access its services. In Powys, Kaleidoscope works in partnership with CAIS to provide services for adults and young people at tiers 2 and 3 (MoC and MoCAM). Staff teams work collaboratively across the county to deliver different aspects of these services, with a core aim of engaging substance misusers into a continuum of service provision. For individuals who require prescribing treatment, structured psycho-social support is provided by Kaleidoscope in parallel with prescribing interventions from South Staffordshire NHS. Services in Powys are designed to a stepped care model, which aims to make best use of the teams' resources.

Thi! s innovative service will provide a range of evidence based ps! ychosocial interventions, delivered by a team of substance misuse workers who will work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.

The service will be delivered in line with a stepped care model as detailed in the National Treatment Agency 'Models of Care for Adult Alcohol Misusers' document (MoCAM, 2007). This has two main components:

1 Provision of brief interventions for those drinking/using excessively but not requiring treatment for alcohol or drug dependence.
2 Provision of treatment interventions for those with moderate or severe dependence and related problems.

The Senior Worker will support the Team Leader in overseeing provision in their locality. In addition, they will directly provide motivational, behavioural and socially-based interventions to service users from a range of community venues. Therapies include:

  • Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)
  • Social Behaviour and Network Therapy (! SBNT)
  • Structured Relapse Prevention
  • Parents and Carers Training (PACT)
The Senior Worker will assist with staff management to ensure effective service delivery, and will assist the Team Leader and Service Manager with the on-going development and promotion of the service. This will involve establishing and nurturing good relationships with a variety of stake holders and partners.

They will be responsible for supporting and line managing designated staff members, planning and allocating work and organising rotas. They will support the Team Leader in the implementation and adherence to all Kaleidoscope policies, procedures and protocols in their locality.

The Senior Worker will carry a client caseload, and provide case management and therapeutic intervention to a range of clients.

Person Specification

Essential Desirable

Qualifications and t! raining

GCSE English Literature or Language, grade C or above (or equivalent).

Graduate calibre

Line management and/or supervision qualification

Skills and abilities

Skilled in practising Motivational Interviewing.
Ability to deliver psychosocial interventions to substance misusers.
Ability to work effectively in a team.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Good IT skills: competency in Microsoft Word.
Previous experience of leading teams and/or supervising staff

Experience of analysing data and compiling detailed reports.
Familiarity with email and Internet Explorer and competence in other applications such as Excel and Powerpoint.

Minimum of 2 years experience in the substance misuse field
Previous contact with groups or individuals with substance misuse issues

Experience of delivering manualised interventions.
