Renishaw (Group Engineering) is looking to recruit an Embedded Software Engineer to work within our new product design and development group at the Miskin site near Cardiff. This team concentrate upon the development of potential shop floor measurement products with a strong emphasis on wireless technologies and client software interfaces.

As the sole dedicated Embedded Software Engineer within a small team you will contribute directly to all stages of the project development cycle, from capturing and interpreting design requirements through to developing concepts and candidate prototypes, as well as working closely with mechanical, electronic and software engineers, manufacturing engineers, suppliers and others to ensure best practice for manufacture and assembly. You will have a working knowledge of microcontrollers / electronic product design.

The role will suit an ambitious and enthusiastic engineer with a passion for producing high ! quality embedded software.

KEY DUTIES:

  • To drive and implement the embedded systems software program
  • To develop new embedded software
  • Participate in design discussions with electronic and mechanical engineers
  • Concept design and development
  • Produce high quality design documentation
  • Specify, perform and document software testing
  • Peer reviewing of code and documentation produced by the group's engineers
  • KEY REQUIREMENTS:
    All applicants are required to have the following:
    • Educated to at least degree level in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or similar relevant scientific discipline (minimum 2:2 grade); OR the ability to demonstrate comparable applied knowledge and expertise to an equivalent level
    • Experience in real time embedded system design and implementation
    • Working knowledge of microcontrollers such as Microchip PICs, Atmel AVRs, 8051
    • Practice in writing software usin! g the C programming language and assembler
    • A background in, or good knowledge of, electronic product design
    • Experience in producing design documentation and well written code
    Although not essential it would be desirable if applicants have some of the following:
    • Familiarity with design methodologies such as Yourdon, UML, Scrum, XP, Waterfall, TDD
    • Some experience of industrial coding standards and development guidelines such as MISRA, DO 178B/C
    • Experience with FPGAs working in VHDL
    • Awareness of software testing methods such as unit testing and integration testing.
    • Experience of Configuration Management systems for managing software changes such as PVCS
    • Familiarity with Bugzilla, TFS or Subversion
    • Previous experience and success in the development of product development
    • Working knowledge of C#

They will be technically strong and have both the vision and attention to detail needed to succeed. Strong communication and team skills are essential.

    LOCATION:
    The role is based at the Miskin site near Cardiff.
