Job Description

AFRY is seeking an experienced CCUS Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a CCUS Engineer, you will play a vital role in the design, implementation, and optimization of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable solutions that address the challenges of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Responsibilities in this role:

  • Lead the design and engineering activities for CCUS projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, techno-economic assessments, and risk analyses for CCUS projects.
  • Develop and implement carbon capture technologies, including the selection and optimization of suitable capture systems.
  • Design and integrate carbon utilization processes
  • Provide technical expertise in the selection and design of carbon storage solutions, including geological storage sites and monitoring protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop innovative CCUS strategies and solutions.
  • Perform process modeling, simulation, and optimization to improve the efficiency and performance of CCUS systems.
  • Support project management activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and regulations related to CCUS, and provide technical guidance to clients and colleagues.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster professional growth within the team.

Qualifications

Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience of 5-10 years in CCUS engineering, preferably within the energy or environmental sector.
  • Strong knowledge of carbon capture technologies, including absorption, adsorption, and membrane-based systems.
  • Familiarity with carbon utilization techniques, such as EOR, direct air capture, or carbon mineralization.
  • Understanding of carbon storage concepts, including geologic storage, monitoring, and verification.
  • Proficiency in process modeling and simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and familiarity with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges.
  • Strong project management abilities, including the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver projects within deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders. Professional fluency in English, other languages are an advantage (e.g., Finnish, Swedish).
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to CCUS.
